If you are new to snowboarding and you are looking for a good quality board but you don’t want to break the bank, a used snowboard maybe just for you. A lot can go wrong when purchasing a used board and therefore it is a sweet thought to do your research so you don’t wind up making a costly error.
The most obvious thing to check for is to ensure that the snowboard is wide enough to completely cover your snow boots. It’s not going to be a pretty site when you’re coming down the slopes with your toes and heels kicking up all kinds of snow all around you! Next you have to decide what length snowboard you want. This is critical because the length of the board often decides what type of snowboarding you will be doing.
If you want to go faster than a longer snowboard would be best but if you want easy manoeuvrability and you want to perform tricks than a shorter board maybe for you. So basically you have to decide how you will want to ride before buying a second-hand snowboard. If you are a beginning snowboarder it is a good notion to buy an all -mountain board as the snowboard’s blend features of both short and long snowboards and are made to be ridden all over the mountain.
Following that you want to start inspecting the board for any obvious imperfections especially on the top at this stage. Steer clear of any used boards that show some major dents or cracks but be aware that some delaminating on the snowboard is normal. Again avoid any snowboards with major dents that these will have an impact on the long-term viability and stability of your snowboard.
A common oversight when buying a second-hand snowboard is the removal of the bindings and the inspection of the area underneath. You want to do the same thing with the stomp pads and any stickers. Another thing to check for here is the threading holes for the bindings and basically you just want to make sure they still work. A snowboard is basically useless if you can’t attach the bindings to it.
Another good thought is to inspect the metal edges around the snowboard. Deep gouges along the edge are usually hard to fix so stay away from those and opt for something with only small wear and tear.
When you finally get to the bottom of your snowboard make sure to look out for any cracks or major cuts because these are a pain to repair. Look for a board that has only minor scratches and scrapes along the bottom. These are just cosmetic and will not affect your boards’ performance as deep cuts and cracks will.
If you are patient and find the right second-hand snowboard, a second-hand snowboard can oftentimes ride as well as a brand-new one and therefore provide you with tremendous value. Follow the suggestions in this article and you’ll be the owner of a sweet snowboard in not time.
