Proper Care Of A Snowboard

The overall surface of a snowboard should be kept smooth and able to easily preclude debris from collecting on the board itself. The smooth surface makes it much easier to operate the board while in play. The better your operate of the board, the easier is it to get the most of your speed and ease of turning. Obviously, the less effort you have to exert in order to operate the board, the better your endurance and the longer you can actually engage in the sport in a short period of time. Endurance and durability will become a lot more important when you’re out snowboarding the whole day.

As far as the board itself, a good quality snowboard wax helps keep your board in high condition, extending the lifespan of the board itself. A snowboard that is not routinely waxed and maintained will adversely be affected by the rough elements of the cold, winter snow. Waxing your snowboard regularly will extend the life of your board as well as help it perform better on the slopes. When applying board wax it is important to do it in a room that is well ventilated. As with many products, the fumes can make you dizzy.

Remember to place a drop cloth underneath your snowboard to protect your furniture from the wax that may drip from your board.Something else you will need are a couple of blocks to support your snowboards on both ends to keep it off of the ground. An inexpensive pair of disposable gloves can be used to protect your hands while applying the wax on your board. snowboard wax usually comes in the form of a bar similar to a bar of soap.

Warm up your wax before apllying it to your board for better penetration. If you don’t have a waxing iron a traditional iron with a teflon surface will work as well. Basically you want to melt the wax into a liquid but not get it so hot that it melts. Using a plastic scraper for applying wax, spread the wax evenly across the board searching out the tiny cracks and scratches on the surface of your board. The most important thing when applying wax to your board is to put on it as evenly as possible.

Once the wax is evenly spread, allow it to cool. While your wax cools down it is repairing and filling all the flaws on the surface of your snowboard. Once the wax is cooled, use another scraper to gently remove any excess wax. Don’t use the scraper to dig down into the board. What you’re looking for is a clear layer of wax without any spots which would indicate wax buildup. For a final step, take an abrasive pad and polish the surface to further smooth out the layer of wax.

There is some difference of opinion on how often you should wax your board. A good rule of thumb is to put on a new coat of snowboard wax after every three uses. As you become more experienced you’ll be able to look at your snowboard and determine when your board is ready for a new layer of wax. Also remember that a board which has been in storage for some time should have a new coat of wax before you begin to use it again. If you really want to enjoy your time on the slopes then waxing your snowboard on a regular basis should be one of yur goals as it not only extends the life of your board but it also keeps it performing at a high level.
